Experimental Brixton-born artist GAIKA presents a heady remix of Marshall Vincent’s Saving Face, a track from In No Particular Order, Marshall’s recent EP out now on SA Recordings.

Fusing references to Black British subcultures with abstract, glistening shapes, GAIKA transforms the original into something new and unfamiliar, placing Marshall’s sultry vocals into warped, dubby frameworks.

Born out of his travels through the many global currents of contemporary London, GAIKA’s music is dark yet melodic, experimental yet catchy. While drawing strongly from his Brixton upbringing and his Jamaican and Grenadian heritage, GAIKA’s sound is ultimately expansive, seamlessly weaving musical motifs, vocal flows and slangs of UK, US and Caribbean music.

Marshall Vincent’s songs are concerned not only with the nuances of love and emotion, but also with deeper identity issues such as race and sexuality, harvesting a deep, radical sensitivity to find power in pain. Sonically, they could be defined as intimate R&B, but there are threads of classical, folk, and electronic present, all woven together with the aim of honest, universal storytelling. More important than genre is the pursuit of clarity and meaning, and as such, the references found within Marshall’s work are abundant.

‘Saving Face (GAIKA Remix)’ is out now via SA Recordings.
